Every person who has a tree in the compound feels distressed when he/she finds a broken branch from the tree. Not because the branch could have hit someone but because you want the tree to have all its essential natural branches. Now, the risk of branches breaking is that they can injure a person or harm property.
Not only breaking but trees are a source of dozen risks and hazards. However, this doesn’t warrant cutting them down but rather calls for more efficient tree care services to reduce the risks associated with them to a negligible amount.
Tree care practices to reduce risks associated with trees
Remove dead and weak branches.
These branches will fall at the slightest swaying by the wind. These can injure or destroy property.
Stake weak branches and trees
Staking is adding additional support to vulnerable plants and trees to reduces instances of breaking though they are not a 100% guarantee of security. Reinforce with brace and cables in all the points where you feel the branches can split apart or break.
Remove the target items
It involves relocating the item which can be damaged by the tree to a safer place. Relocation may comprise moving the parking lot to a location where it is not under a tree, removing animal structures which are under a tree.
Proper pruning of the trees
Dangerous pruning practices will inflict wounds in a tree. These injuries take some time to seal up or in worst cases leave a bad spot. These form the entry point of fungi and pests which destroy the tree from inside and make it weak. A tree which is not strong is a real danger especially if it is a fully grown tree. It’s better to secure the services of professional tree pruner than risk destroying your tree and eventually causing more damage to your compound.
Provide routine care for the trees
Mature and old trees require tender care just like older adults. Their roots have become weak and also the trunk has endured many wounds over the years. Some wounds sealed while others are still open and are exposed points in the tree.
Provide proper nutrients, water, mulching, and pruning to help it restore its worn tissues. Removing excessive branches from the tree ensures that it offers little resistance to the wind and this also reduces chances of breaking or the tree falling.
Treat damaged barks and trunk wounds
You can use the pruning paints or seal creams to reduce incidences of infections developing from the wound.
If all those fail, cut the tree.
If after evaluating all the factors you realize that the risks are still high, there is no other way out apart from cutting down your tree and embark on a mission to plant new ones. These can be transplanted from another location in your compound or bought from the forest department.
The best option to take is to ensure that you start proper tree care practices from the time it is small. These will make sure that the tree grows healthy and in natural ways.
